NHC Shipping Considerations
« on: May 17, 2015, 08:56:10 am »
Hey all -

I am considering shipping my NHC entry 2 day.  Overnight is just ridiculously expensive.  While the 2 day option is high..... it is not crazy.  Plus, sending from Iowa, I would be looking at 4-5 days in a brown UPS truck and I can't believe the heat and long ship would do a light lager much good.

Is it worth it/a good idea to do this?  I would rather spend an extra $20-$30 than take the time and effort to send a beer to san diego that needs to be at its best..... and have it "off" because it sat in a 100 degree UPS truck.

Are others shipping with a 2-3 day express of some sort?  Any tips or tricks in regard to pricing?

I assume that 2 day delivery will involve air travel..... is there any consideration with carbonation/pressure changes when shipping beer by air???  Is it a problem at all?  I have never shipped via air.

Thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks

I've shipped and received beer to and from Cali on several occassions.  I assume it all goes by air and that they don't actually drive it out there.

While I haven't been there to drink what I shipped, the beer that arrived here was just fine.

I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Spend more for two-day shipping of you feel you need to.

K, get that Dortmunder to me and I'll add it to my 2-day box.

I plan on shipping my entries 2-day because I don't want them sitting in a hot UPS truck for days.  That said, I did win a medal for a light lager the last time the NHC was in San Diego and I shipped it ground.

I shipped 2 day air last time, it was a Pilsner, and got a Bronze.
