Check out 30th St in North Park for a lot of interesting restaurants as well as the Toronado SD
In that vein, if you're going to be in town on the Tuesday, there are possibly still tickets left to the Taste of North Park event.  That would give you a chance to sample the food (and beer) in that area for $20.

Tickets are still available - I just bought mine.
I set out running but I take my time.

Isn't there a mall across the road with a bunch of restaurants?  Or was that some other NHC?
Yes, the food court in the mall was "adequate".

We are going to check out Old Town.

Where, exactly, is Old Town?
Trolley stop 2 to the west of Fashion Valley.

It appears that the trolley stops by the T&C about every 15 minutes.
Well...I woke up this morning and I got myself a beer

Another neighborhood along the trolley line is Little Italy; it's about half way between Old Town and the Gaslamp.  Walk two blocks to India Street, and then there's 3 to 4 blocks of great restaurants going north.

In particular Filippe's is large portion old-style Italian, very family friendly, always good.  Ballast Point has a tap room nearby.  I think any dining in this neighborhood is going to be quite good.  Maps for the curious:  http://www.littleitalysd.com/dine/, https://www.zomato.com/san-diego/little-italy-restaurants

Today we rode the trolly from the T&C to Little Italy. Had lunch at an Italian place that had a table of old Italian gents by the curb loudly talking in Italian. Lunch was very good. Plenty to choose from in that area.

We then rode the trolly and waked to Modern Times for a beer or two. Really good beers IMO. We met up with Jeff Gladish and his wife, they offered a ride back, which we accepted. Modern times is on the "wrong side of the tracks". Mrs. R said it was more like we rode the Crazy Train to Funky Town...

Later we went to Old Town. Cafe Coyotte is one of the top rated ones there, but was just average to us as we spend a lot of time in Brownsville TX. So if you want to check out Old a Town it is not far by Trolly, but Touristy and the food was average. The Sculpin on draft was fresh.

Nice to meet up this afternoon.  I liked Modern Times' beers and its embience.  It is a bit off the walking path of the trolley though.
I have to say that Old Town is just too touristy for my taste.

Agreed. Thanks for the ride again.

One of the guys from the walk was at the Old a Town transit center!
