What beer style would this be??
« on: July 14, 2015, 09:32:03 pm »
Hey guys been awhile, the other day when I was helping my friend brew I threw together some spare grains and hops just to use them up and this is what it looked like. Any thoughts on the style specification? *Note this is for a 2 gallon batch.
Grain Bill:
* <6lbs Bohemian Pilsner
* .25lbs Dark Crystal Malt 150L
* .43lb Roasted Barley 375L
SRM~46
*Added 1oz Willamette's(~5%AA) @ 60min
Estimated IBU's should be around 45
Pitched US-05 @ 70F then cooled and fermented at 66F for 7 days.

OG:1.094
Today I just racked it into the secondary to add some cocoa nibs and the SG was 1.024. roughly where I figured it would finish out.
Estimated ABV=9.1%

Imperial Stout/Porter??
The color is mostly black with a slight brown tint. Pre conditioning taste was slight raisiny quickly shifting to roasted/coffee taste not to bitter and fairly balanced as far as bitterness. Just looking to see what you guys think.
A fine beer may be judged with only one sip, but it's better to be thoroughly sure.

Coming up:
SMaSH Rye Pale Ale
Chocolate Rye Stout
Milk Stout

Are we talking BJCP? I think it would be firmly in Cat 23.

As far as what to call it, something like Imperial Schwarzbier with Cocoa?

Beer is like porn. You can buy it, but it's more fun to make your own.

I thought we came to a consensus that lagers had to be fermented with lager yeast. I don't think the OP said what yeast was used. Or if he did, I ignored it.

It's a Russian Imperial Stout.  Probably a very tasty one.

That's what I was thinking just wanted to make sure. I plan on bottling in a couple days then aging at least half of them until Christmas so hopefully they are delicious I'll keep you guys posted!
