I have a monster mill, I have had great luck with it and recently had my drill burn out. I am looking into a more
permanent motor and sheave and belt system. So my question:

Would a motor that runs with these specs be ok?

Specifications:
• 115 VAC
• 1/30 HP
• 1625 RPM
• 0.50 Amps
• Capacitor start (supplied)
• CW facing shaft
• Thermally protected
• Shaft: front 5/16 dia. x 15/16" long with pinned 7/8 dia. cog pulley;
   rear shaft 5/16" dia. x 1/2 long. Size 3-3/8 dia. x 3-1/4" long. New.

I have a similar motor powering my MM3 and it works good.  The only difference between your motor and my motor is the shaft, I might have a smaller shaft diameter.  I also found it easier to use a coupling adapter to connect the motor's shaft directly to the mill's shaft instead of using a belt system. I used this coupling adapter http://www.lovejoy-inc.com/products/jaw-type-couplings/l-type.aspx you can also buy it at Grainger supply. Once I figure out how to post a picture, I'll post a picture of what I'm talking about.

What RPM's are you running your mill at?

With a direct link I would be running the mill at more than 1000 RPM's.
If your coupling is direct I may look for a motor that runs at less than 300...

I bought this motor from a used part place for about10 dollars. 

Tell you the truth i didn't even try using a belt.  It just seemed easier using the coupling adapter, so i really don't know the difference between using a belt system and a direct connect coupling adapter. I haven't had a problem with this set up, it runs like a champ.
