Glycol Chiller Window AC Inkbird
« on: August 20, 2015, 08:17:47 am »
Hey fellow brewers,
So I just rigged up my cooler with the evaporator coil of a window AC unit and the operation is awesome.
Where the problems start is first my thermosensor control. I installed an Inkbird, but think it may be a ITC-1000 because the outlet for the AC already blew the Inkbird's port. So:

- Will STC-1000 be able hand the 115V/4.2A of the window AC or do I need some kind of relay?

The next problem is one I have told my gf about. The AC unit is very loud when the heat fan is active. But I don't think the compressor has much noise. So:

- Can I disconnect the fan and not worry about over heating on the heat exchange?
- Should I set the fan on a separate STC-1000 to only activate when exceeding a heat range?

Or, Does anyone have any good ideas to muffle the noise? We live in a condo and I currently have it set up in the wide hall, so Closets or Basements are out of the question.

Thanks guys!

I believe the stc-1000 and the itc-1000 are identical. Likely a commodity product manufactured by one company in China with multiple brands labeling them.

I researched this morning and found the Inkbird posted on Homebrewtalk about their newer STC-1000 over their previous ITC-1000 released in January 2015. I bought a legit Inkbird last month, but the Amazon purchase description reads ITC (I didn't know the difference before this morning). So I'm seeing if anyone has seen this before and after?

The relays on an STC-1000 are rated for 10 A. I don't know about the ITC-1000, but hopefully it's labeled. That said, I now treat them as logic-level devices only after burning one out sourcing ~4 A.
