I'm brewing a Ron Mexico clone today, 11 gallons using HBC-438 at 16.6% AA.
.25 oz. at 90.
1.0 oz at 15
3.75 oz at flameout for a 45 min whirlpool

Should be around 70 IBU.

That is loaded up at the end.

Dry hops will be 2 stages, 0.5 oz per gallon each stage.

that's more like it  ;)
For a beer with a 4.5% ABV.

Update-----

Spoke to brewer just a bit ago, he did not give me ammounts

His additions for the 60min boil:

Mosaic/citra 30min
Mosaic/citra 5min
Mosaic/citra 0min
I feel sorry for people who don't drink. When they wake up in the morning, that's as good as they're going to feel all day.    -- Dean Martin

I'd use whatever amounts to get about 60ibus from 30 min, then 1.5oz each at 5 and 0, drop to 180 and whirlpool for 40 min.  dryhop with 2.5oz each (i'd probably split into a 2 stage dryhop but not necessary).

Im kinda leaning towards warrior FWH and then galaxy, mosaic, citra only whirlpool/dryhop

Do you have a recomendation for treating RO water for strike water?

How do you calculate IBUs when making whirlpool additions?

I figure 8% utilization, roughly equivalent to a 10 min boil addition, but that's just because I like putting numbers on things. I doubt you'll notice the added bitterness.

How do you account for the extra loss of wort(evaporation) during whirlpool?

With the wort off a boil, you shouldn't see any significant evaporation.

Thoughts?

4 oz of hops in 5 gal is 1.5 lb/bbl, solidly in APA territory. I'd wager your friend's "fruit bomb" was >3 lb/bbl.

Have you mashed this grist before? Starting with RO water, adding a bunch of calcium salts with no alkalinity, and then throwing acid on top of it, I don't see how your pH for a pale wort could end up where you want it.

I was always taught to never put the lib on-  is that only for the boil?

Right, by the time you're done boiling you've driven off all the DMS (or you need to boil longer).

I redid my water calculations with brewers friend and ezwater cal and I made following corrections:

entering my grist info push my mash pH to 5.73

adding:
7g gypsum
4g Calcium Chloride
3ml Lactic acid

so overall-

Ca+2    Mg+2    Na+    CI-    SO4-2
74.8       0          0      58.6     108.7

Gives me 5.39pH on Brewers friend and 5.36pH on Ezwater

thoughts?
