I went to an end-of-the-season cross country party last night (our boys took 6th in state) and the party was at a couple's house that they just moved into. It's spectacular. It looks like a castle with a bricked, circle driveway and the whole thing. Outrageously beautiful house that used to belong to a executive at AB. Thusly, the guy built a sweet basement bar with a triple draft tower, a big fridge underneath, beer lines, CO2 tank, etc. The guy who moved in loves it but he's not really sure how everything should work nor how to clean it. The previous owner has a spare keg with connections (commercial keg connections, btw) and this keg is for cleaning. So he was asking me what to do. At first I told him to fill the keg with hot water and Oxi and run it through the lines and then I told him that I would bring him a bottle of sanitizer (Starsan) that he could also run through the lines. I was trying to make it simple and thought that Oxi would be a good cleanser (I have used it for brewing for years) for him to use. He showed me some blue packets of powder that the previous owner left behind (2 small ones) which may be good, I dunno. Anyway, does anyone see a simpler/better option for this guy to clean and sanitize his beer lines? I had a couple glasses of his Goose Island Green Line Pale Ale and honestly... it tasted either "old", "oxidized" or just like beer that had gone through dirty beer lines. I would like to steer him in the right direction. Cheers Beerheads.
