As a side note the recipe I posted, aside from being our #2 selling beer, is also a beer we contract brewed for Panalpina which does a direct flight from Luxembourg to Huntsville. Apparently the beer went over very well in Luxembourg.

Here's my favorite lager I brew (It's the beer I dink the most of from everything I brew)

1.058
19 BUs
73.2% Vienna (Best)
25.4% Pils (Best)
1.4% carafa Special II (cold soaked added after vorlauf)
Approx 19 IBUs German Mangum @ 60
About .75 oz per 5 gallons American Crystal hops @ flame out

WY2124

Dough in 150-152 for 60 min. Pitch at 48 and ferment at 48 before raising for d rest near end of fermentation.
Keith is this more of a Vienna or a Czech  Amber. Both are very close to this in beersmith and if I brew it and love it and want to enter it, just wondering
Frank L.
Fermenting: Nothing (ugh!)
Conditioning: Nothing (UGH!)
In keg: Nothing (Double UGH!)
In the works:  House IPA, Dark Mild, Ballantine Ale clone(still trying to work this one into the schedule)

I wanted something original so, if anything, it might fit better into a North German Alt. I originally started it off as a 1.065 beer that was a "red hellesbock" and lowered the SG to where it is now. Sorry if that's not any more help.

Your cold steeping the carafa separately and dumping it in at end of mash?

Cool. Seems like such a tiny amount that I had to confirm.

I have never brewed this beer smaller than 10bbl batch so there may be some tweaking on the smaller batch size. The beer is a fairly deep red.

1% - 2% carafa or midnight wheat is what i use for color in non-roasty dark beers, most recently a dunkel.  That should be good at the 5-10 gallon level.

A good Dortmunder is pretty hard to beat IMO.

Dortmunder is my favorite lager to brew as well.

A Dortmunder it'll be. Actually I've never been there. Maybe I should go there to do some research. My significantly more other than myself will understand it's for science!

Dortmunders don't exist anymore. You'll have to settle for a Helles Exportbeir from now on. So shall it be written, so shall it be done
