New MoreBeer Torpedo Keg Dimensions
« on: November 14, 2015, 10:33:54 am »
1.5 gallon:
9 1/8" in diameter
10" tall

2.6 gallon:
9 1/8" in diameter
14.5" tall

5 gallon:
9 1/8" in diameter
22 3/4" tall

Might be too wide for my needs.

I can stack the 2.6 with room to spare. Very cool.

I'm loving everything about these. The price is just right, and the fact that they can be stacked with fittings.

I would love to pick up a couple of 2.5s and stack them.

You can buy a couple of these cheaper than one new NB keg kit.

I want a couple of 1.5-gallon kegs for parties.  At my age, even 3-gallon kegs are too much to bring to a party.

I think they missed the mark on the width.  I can't fit 4 of these where I can fit 5 standard ball locks. I'm sure new brewers will love these, but I'm not going to upgrade of it means fewer taps. Looks like AIH will be getting my money.

Redrew my layout, and I could MAYBE fit 4 kegs where I fit 5. It's hard to say as the lines are basically touching.

Any idea where these are manufactured?

I didn't ask. I'd guess China or India. They mention they are produced by an existing keg manufacture.

I really wish they were a half inch narrower.

I think the real value is the smaller keg sizes. If you can stack them with QD's attached, then that opens up a lot of possibilities. If I had a wad of cash burning a hole in my pocket, then I'd stock up on the smallest size so I could keg my test batches side-by-side rather than bottling.

I would not be surprised to learn that More Beer's Torpedo kegs are made somewhere in North America.  They look like modified sixtels.

The width is comparable to a sixtel and I have always called sixtel kegs torpedoes. But I don't know if they could get the price so low. If they can do so well on a superior NA made keg, it makes me think we are getting hosed at $75 for a Chinese or Indian made keg.

I'm sure the would point out if they were made in the US.

I still really want them, they just don't fit my keezer well enough. Price is actually better than AIH after shipping. What to do?!?!?!

North America includes Canada and Mexico, both of which are lower cost manufacturing centers.  The kegs are machine welded. However, the odds that they are manufactured offshore are high.

If I were a gambling man, I would bet that the company in the piece linked below cut a deal with More Beer.  Geemacher is bringing part of their production back onshore (for customers who are willing to pay a premium for an American-made keg, which eliminates the home brewing market), and they are small enough to cater to More Beer.  The owner of the company owns a craft brewery and a craft distillery.

Here is the company that purchased Spartenburg: http://www.franke.com/content/beveragesystems/de/en/home/about_us.html

For what I understand, Franke owns the sixtel market.   They also own all of Spartanburg's old tooling.  Spartenburg manufactured a metric truck load of soda kegs.  Franke is Swiss, but they manufacture in Germany.

I get that Canada and Mexico are both in NA, I was just commenting that if it was US made, they would blast it all over the place.

I might order on the the 2.5s as they will only fit on the hump in the keezer.

I have 4 kegs.3 ball lock and 1 pinlock and different manufactures. I'm not exactly in the market to replace them yet but when I am I will be looking at these. That looks like a tough little keg. Having some new kegs would be nice and if these do well with reviews I will be looking at them as long as they will fit my fridge. I will have to measure since they seem a little taller with this handles.
