I'm hoping to participate in this round as well. Thanks for putting this all together Jim!
Corn is a fine adjunct in beer.

And don't buy stale beer.

Shoot.  I still have to post some notes from the last one.  Pneumonia really kicked my rear at the end of last year.  But everyone has excuses, right?

I think I'd be in for this again.

I'm in , too, Jim.  I still have a couple of Jeffy's beers and a mead to drink from Swaptoberfest.  He sent me too much, including a really nice bottle of commercial sour that I have to sample!  Loved that stuff he made and the commercial ones, too.  Southern brewers rock! At this point, I still have a few beers from the last one to review, and I have no idea what I'll have on in the spring, but I'm in.

I think for future swaps there should be a rule that if the beer isn't consumed and reviewed within 30 days of receipt it has to be sent to Jim. How hard is it to drink a beer?

Valid point. I think I figured it out... It's not that nobody doesn't like to drink beer when brewing, everybody just doesn't want to drink in general j/j 😜

I was on the fence in entering my quad into the NHC. I think it will do very well. Because of the swap, I have another reason to pull the keg now. It's participating in both!

I've been toying with the idea of doing a challenge beer for one of the 3 beers. Maybe make it suggested and voluntary so no one feels like they have to do it or not join the swap.

2016 Spring Swap Challenge Beer
Ingredients limits
3lbs DME must be used (any kind or color)
Not more than 8oz of any steeping grain may be used but not required
Not more than 8oz sugar (any kind) may be used but not required
Hops may be Cascade, Centennial, or Magnum, or any combo of the 3, used any way you want in any amounts
Yeast may be US04 or US05

Equipment and process limits
Stove top with no pumps, chillers, or filters
Thermometer, hydrometer, and spoons are allowed
Electronic fermentation temp controls not allowed
No post boil fining allowed
Must be bottle conditioned

What do you guys think?

Seems restricted but if you think about it there's several good beers could come out of that.

So let's say I make five gallons of this beer.  I keep most of it and bottle enough to send to my swap-mate.  Is there some competition involved?

Ya thats fine, as long as what you send is bottle conditioned. And comp can be bragging rights, not sure how we'd score things otherwise...

Also, I went back and made two edits. Changed crystal to steeping grains, changed no fining to no post boil fining
