Mixed Source Water Input to Bru'n Water
« on: January 21, 2016, 08:53:27 am »
My town water is composed of a 90/10 split between Lake Ontario and Lake Otisco water, as quoted by my municipality.

As such, my AWQR lists the average mineral value for each source.

When I originally inputted my profile, I summed these individual contributions and inputted them. Example:

     Lake Ontario -> Calcium - 33.5 mg/l
     Lake Otisco -> Calcium - 43.5 mg/l

     (33.5*0.9)+(43.5*0.1) = 34.5 mg/l

I then repeated this for all pertinent minerals.

Is this a legitimate way to input to Bru'n Water? I haven't had issues with being far off on predictions, but....

The "Donate" version of Bru'N has the option of using different percentages of water sources, I believe ;)

Edit: Sorry. That doesn't help answer your question, but I thought it might be helpful. Your method of weighting each water source seems reasonable to me.

While weighted averages may not be accurate of the mixed water due to reactions before mashing, I don't think it matters for Bru'n water because it will figure out the end result in the mash.
