2 kegs one flat - carbed
« on: January 29, 2016, 11:06:11 pm »
Gentleman and Ladies,

Issue: Milk Stout flat

Psi: 11.5+- psi at 40F  @ day 1

So I kegged 2, 5 gallon batches on Jan 17, 2015

Keg 1 - Porter kegged Jan 17, 2015
**Status Jan 29, 2015: Carbed

Keg 2 - Milk Stout Kegged same day
>>Status Jan 29, 2015: Flat

Milk Stout I overfilled to the bottom of the  rim of the keg..almost....the co2 in tube was immersed in the beer ... Oopsy..lol

The Porter I had some head space.. Adequate head space

I tapped the Porter a week ago and it was carbed..today its just right!

Milk Stout was flat...so I thought "ok the overfilling had something to do with it". So  I dumped like a pint of beer or so... Thinking maybe this is enough to give more headspace

That was week ago!

It's now Jan 29th and the Milk Stout is pretty much flat.. 2 weeks later :(

I pulled the the vent release on the keg and it threw out the usual phishhhhhhhhh sound..
So it had pressure.... Blew pretty hard..

Can't be leak because the gauges are exactly reading same stats as day one..right?

So tonight Friday 9pm west coast time,  I  poured out from the tap about a pint of more milk Stout... Just in case the initial pint I dumped wasn't enough....

I'm perplexed.. To say the least...I'm thinking it was the head space... But I'm so knew to kegging I don't really know...

*****Can I open the keg to check if I have plenty of head space and then do the whole repurge and then set pressure again...???

Pressure and co2 status are and have stayed were unadjusted them too for the last 2 weeks...

With little to no headspace you have a very low volume of gas in your key. It will take longer to carb.

You could draw off some beer or just leave the gas connected and be patient.

Yep. When I overfill and submerge the short 'gas in' post, I'll draw off a pint to bring the post back above the beer. Carbs a lot quicker.

HoosierBrew,

That's a good idea, draw off  a pint or so initially when overfilled to bring it back down below the gas tube....(why didn't I think to do that)..

That's why I'm a rookie and you guys are da pros!

I did  draw off more beer last night as per my original comment...approx a pint.

It should be good now aka the head space..now to wait another week.. This sucks Flea balls! LOL

Thanks alot,  as ways your one  cool cat!
