Ralph's Springtime IPA 2016
« on: February 24, 2016, 07:36:11 pm »
I posted some questions in the ingredients forum concerning honey malt in an IPA. After looking at all the pros and cons in the thread I went ahead and brewed it. This is a beer I will absolutely brew again. I had hoped that the honey malt would cancel out the bitter finish of the 10 oz of hops I used. And it did just that. I would put the perceived bitterness at the finish at a little less than what you get from an Odell's IPA. There is absolutely no sweetness to this beer at all. Just a good hoppy beer with enough maltiness to stand up to it. From here on out this will be the grain bill for all of my IPAs. My actually OG was 1.066 and my FG was 1.012 for an ABV of 7.4%. The recipe follows:

Very nice recipe. I too enjoy adding a little Honey malt to my pale ales to make a slight backbone to the amount of hops I put in it. Cheers to your new recipe!

I remember the original thread. Thanks for updating. I love me some Odell IPA so I may need to give something like this a try some time.
On Tap/Bottled: IPL, Adjunct Vienna, Golden Stout, Honey Lager
Fermenting: IPA
Up Next: mexi lager, Germerican pale ale
