Citra Pale Ale? Citra and Cascade Pale Ale?
« on: March 04, 2016, 04:19:47 pm »
So im having a tough time deciding whether to make a Citra only pale ale or a Citra and Cascade Pale Ale?  It might even be like a session IPA.  I was wondering what other people's history is with these 2 hops as a combo.

They work together fine, but use less Citra than Cascade or the Cascade will get overpowered. 2 Cascade: 1 Citra balances out pretty well.

I know it's not really what you're asking, Citra and galaxy in equal parts is my favorite combo. Investigate that direction before making a decision.

I prefer to blend Citra with another hop when brewing a beer where the hops are the focal point. I find Citra to be too monotone when used on its own. Turns into a bit of a mango bomb. Something with some citrus like Cascade is nice to round things out.

+ 1 to this. It works well with a wide selection of hops.

Ok. The like Jon said, you'll want more cascade than Citra if you want to find it. if you just want Citra to be layered with another dimension, I'd go 1:1. If you want to be able is distinguish the cascade, I would go 2:1 if not 5:2 cascade to Citra. Id probably split the difference in order to mesh them together at a ratio of 3:2 cascade to Citra.
