In the ballpark, but lighter and less red.  I've been using it as a light crystal replacement lately, based on the fact that one of my favorite beers in the world, Oakshire's Watershed IPA, uses it.  I guess I wouldn't call it a carared replacement, but it is a great malt.
I love that beer and keep meaning to try the recipe you contributed to the book. Do you think there's a decent sub for Cara Ruby or should I track down an online supplier? None of the shops around here carry it, although I can get Dingemans Cara 20L.
It's such a fine line between stupid and clever.

Question: aren't both of these (carared & cararuby) made from green 2 row spring barley?
