I cry a little when I think of what I've let go over the years :'(

1968 Ford Torino, 302 automatic
1968 Chevelle, 327 4 speed
1967 Camaro RS w/hide away headlights, 327 4 speed
1964 Willis 3/4 ton truck
1965 Chevy long bed truck, 235 six w/3-on-the-tree
1969 VW Beetle
1971 VW Beetle
1972 Jeep CJ5, Six Cylinder
1968 Ford F150, 390 automatic

Don't have any of these now. Not even a picture of any I don't think. All bought and sold in the '70s and 80's; none over $1500.00
I'm stupid.
But, back then any of these could be found on any used car lot for lees than $2000.00

As far as the mileage is concerned, if money were no object, it seems that some of todays engines
can run the chasis of yesteryear. Anyone watch Overhaulin?

Nope give me a 2011 Nissan GT-R  anyday thank you very much.

Not many cars race or street can do a 7.29-minute lap of the  Nürburgring

Back to reality, I'll pay top dollar for a  2010 Volkswagen Polo BlueMotion Diesel >71 mpg, if its ever allowed into the states.

I remember our '58 Chevy BelAir. My Mom drove it into a drainage ditch on my 7th birthday (12/29/65). (With me and our family friend in his Air Force uniform in the backseat.) The ditch had a slight ice covering that made it look like a road. They pulled it out, changed the oil, and off we went.
Then they bought a '68 Barracuda. Their first new car. Red with the big back window. Worked like a charm at the drive-in!  ;)

I had a '64 LeMans in high school. Bought it for $495. Black with red interior.  Blew up the engine within 2 months.  Spent the next month rebuilding it.  Not a lot of high performance parts for a 326 but I made due. Ended up boring it .060 & 10:1 pistons, Crane Cam, 780 dual feed (over jetted), Hooker Headers, ACCEL dual point & super coil. Converted it from 3 on the tree to 4 on the floor. Convinced a buddy to part with his Rock Crusher.  ;D  MT M50's on the rear & pulled scratch in all 4. Gawd I miss that car!!!  :'(
If Homebrew & BBQ aren't the answer, then you're askin' the wrong questions... Cheers!!!

I loved the prices! I loved the lines! I loved the fact that I could actually FIX them if they broke!
I think they were even made in this country putting actual Americans to work!
I love the fact that the insurance companies did not dictate design! (and thereby price)
I love that they were made of METAL and some wood!

I know....dream on.... :'(
i've got a '56 bel-air, it could be for sale, you interested?

56 Chev is not bad.  I struggle just keeping my current stuff running...
I would be more interested if it were a 41 Ford Willys Coupe...

Thanks for checking tho.

I own a very stock 1968 Bronco.  No power anything and three on the tree.  Man is it fun to drive- V8 power and rumble, lookin out over that classic hood with the raised fenders, heads turning.  Driving through the mountains with the top off is so grand. Yeah, it only gets 12-13 MPG but it's just so damn cool.

man, I want to get one of those.

I have worked at Ford for the last 24 years, and I have been bleesed with many new cars as part of the management lease program. Currently have a 2010 Taurus and Fusion with 2011 Fiesta and Edge on order.

That said, when I was a teenager we basically had four cliques - the freaks, jocks, nerds and greasers. The greasers had the best cars, and I somehow managed to straddle friendships with a few (I was a freak/nerd). In the day, I enjoyed many a rgeat ride in other peoples pony cars.

My favorite was Randy Griffith's '67 Super Sport Chevelle. If I recall correctly (and I might be wrong, age has a way of distorting and modifying memories), it had a big block V-8 (427?) and a Hurst shifter on the floor. This thing was wickedly powerful off the line, but topped off much quicker than say my other friend Mike's 1972 Trans Am that could approach 150mph, but took quite a long time to get there.

Back in those days, I drove all manners of Volkswagons, primarily Bettles, with a 1963 mini van that I loved. Man, baby blue and white, peace symbol on the spare tire, shag rug and cheap wooden paneling and curtains. Par-tee! I could take 5 people and a keg of beer to New York City or wherever for concerts. 0 to 60 on a Tuesday with a tailwind going downhill, but space - the final frontier!
