Mr Malty
« on: March 13, 2016, 11:15:20 am »
The last two days I've been unable to connect to the mrmalty.com website.
Keep getting the HTTP 404 error message.
Anyone else having something similar?

Same here. I don't really like his yeast calculator, so I'm not that upset about it.

Uh-oh... maybe in his new profession he's unable to pay the bills?  ;)

I'm sure at least a hundred people if not 300 will let him know right away that the site is down and he'll get it up again soon.

Why not?

Two main reasons. 1) As far as I know, he never actually published his data. 2) His growth formulas don't line up with what other researchers, or homebrewers have found.

I prefer the models based on Kaiser's data. In particular I use the one over at brewunited, which has a built in support for harvesting yeast from the starter.

I like Brewers Friend and the HomeBrew Dad calculators. I actually used a lot of the info from the latter when I made my SNS calculator.

I always agreed with Mark's nuclear bomb analogy when it comes to pitching yeast. Using a yeast calc is a good idea to get in the ballpark. They're all close enough to each other to give good results. Past that it's about freshness and viability.

I like the Mr Malty app. I've never found another yeast app. I don't like most of the other sites because they are not formatted for cell phone.

Brewunited's works well on phones in my experience.
