So sad...my thoughts are with you.

I just saw there's a group from Allagash, including Founder Rob Tod and head brewer Jason Perkins.  Every one is ok.  They had arrived just minutes after the attack.  Wisely, they are heading to Paris to fly home.

Hope you and yours are safe.

Thanks, they are, but to me every victim is mine. :(

Love your reply.  Unfortunately the only question we have today is "Why?" and there will never be an answer.

Thoughts with you and yours and all of our Belgian brothers and sisters.

Thanks for the support and kind words, folks. We will not give in to mindless hatred and fear. Have a Belgian beer to honor our brave little country.

Well said Frank. Many of us here feel the same way. Hatred and fear may feel good in the moment but over the course of time those forces are always defeated by our better angels if we have the sense to follow that path. Always.

I am glad to say that the other Belgian passion, bicycling, is in full swing.  The Dwars door Vlaanderen started in Roeselare without security incidents.  For the Belgian hopefuls it must be very emotional to be riding today.  The Belgian Greg van Avermaet is a major favorite.

Frank, do you watch much cycling?

Saturday is National Orval Day here in the States (and maybe elsewhere? it said it was the first annual) so I was already planning to participate in that, but I'll certainly raise a glass to our Belgian friends.

Cheers

Just seeing this now after getting caught up on the forum. As already said, our thoughts are with you and all there. As a side note, I was in Baltimore and  for National Orval day at Max's Taproom (thanks for the suggestion to all who have ever mentioned it on here, I read most of the Baltimore travel suggestions) and they had a lineup of 2010-2015 available in bottles. I only had the time to try the 2012 and loved it. Too bad I could not stay to sample through the flight, but the older ones were pricey

That image is excellent.

I was attempting to get from Brussels to Minneapolis on that day. I arrived at the airport about 3 minutes (judging by the text I sent to my wife) after the blast amidst quite a bit of confusion (drop-off traffic wasn't moving; me and some others left our rides and walked the rest of the way). I knew something was wrong, but not to what extent. The guy at the information booth at the taxi level told me "it might be difficult" to get to check-in, but I could go in and up one level and give it a try. So I did. Then I quickly turned around and walked back out.

In case anybody's wondering, I drove to Amsterdam the next day and caught a flight there. I had a lovely trip. There's good beer going on in Minnesota and I drank plenty of it.

Up the street from my house there's a car with a bumper sticker that says "Coexist" and has a bunch of religious symbols. Which is a cute sentiment, but you CAN NOT coexist with someone who refuses to coexist with you.
