Blue moon Belgian Pils
« on: March 19, 2016, 05:06:42 pm »
Just cracked one of these...not a fan. Says "with hint of mandarin orange".
This Pils is really sweet to me. Not drinking this again.

That seems complicated. I believe simple is better, especially with a pils.

Appearance-wise it looks good in that glass!

I lowered my expectations from blue moon when they came out with a horchata flavored beer. :o

I tried this last night.  I see your point with a not so subtle mandarina hop and mandarin orange peel.  But sweet? I struggle with the difference between just saying "sweet" and Malt forward, I do agree it is not as balanced as I would have liked, but not terribly far off either.  I am far from top 10 Pils ever tasted, but on a hot day this brew could be good.  Not great I might add, but I wouldn't be upset if the wife bought this again.  It was far from the worse example of Blue Moon, In my humble opinion, horchata cinnamon ale.  This pilsner did remind me of Maes Pils before it got bought out in 2008 and changed up the recipe.

Bavik pils was quite nice directly from the fermenter, but that's really the only time it is.

Stay away from the Jupiler.

My wife and I would occasionally buy those blue moon variety packs and a couple of them were interesting, but the more and more we delved into local craft beer the less and less satisfying the Blue Moon was.  We barely finished the last 12 pack we bought and decided we would never buy one again.

In my head a "belgian pilsner" doesn't even make sense...
