Denny...since this thread has popped back up and I'm too lazy to go thru 65 pages to find this...

It's 1/4 tsp./5 gal. of mash water and,

none in the sparge water and,

1/2 tsp./5 gal. in the boil @ 15 min.,

is that right ?
No, 1/4t per 5 gallons, 1/2t in slurry near end of boil before adding finings. So for a 5 gallon batch, you'd probably want about 1/4t per mash and sparge water.

We're hoping to get the results form the EB experiment sometime in the next month.
Curious. Why has this taken so long?

A number of reasons.  For one, there are a lot of brewers involved so it takes a while to get everything coordinated.  Another reason is that we wanted the beers to get at least a bit of age on them so we could maybe evaluate how well they aged.  And we have a lot of experiments going at any one time so we have tp have a place to slot it in.

I think the aging part is key.

Probably too late (unless you thought about it ahead of time) but it would be cool to have some bottles set aside for a future tasting, too.

I think some people did that.

As I have said before, I think you guys will see some notable improvements on shelf life and stability. Fenton reactions are definitely a concern for us.

Joe F = multiple NHC gold medal winner and Sam Adams Longshot winner. I tend to heed his advice.
X2 Ninkasi, and a pretty nice guy.

He's in my club, so I am extremely biased... but he is the best brewer I know - and that includes the pros I know.  His beers are routinely ramped up for brewpubs.
ynotbrusum:  Are you in the Chicago area?  Just curious... I'm in the NW burbs and I'm always looking for locals to compare Lake Michigan water with.  Cheers.

First time posting here but long-time lurker.  Just ordered some Brewtan from ibrew so subbing this thread for valuable insight.

Also, not that you asked me but I live in Lincoln Square and usually use Lake Michigan water.  Always willing to swap beers for evals.

Cheers!

Rock on.   I'm in Edgewater.  Just stopped at Brew Camp on the way home.

Joe F had some packets of BTB at the Chicago regional for the NHC - so I think I should be able to make that packet last through the release date here in the U.S.  Now let's hope it's not released on an exclusive basis through InBev outlets in captive clone kits only!!!

Yeah, "Buy 3 $50 Goose Island kits and we'll throw in 3 grams of Brewtan for only $20 extra."

Speaking of release date in the US, were you given any idea on when that could potentially happen?

I can pretty much guarantee that won't happen!

Nothing exact.  I had heard around beginning of July discussed, but I don't know how the discussion concluded.

Thanks for the update Denny. That would be great to see it available in US markets this summer sometime - even by the end of the year would be great.

Yeah, Joe said distribution could start shortly after NHC, if everything stays on track.

I noticed that Wyeast is listing BTB on it's website. Does this mean we are close to distribution?
