Partial Mash Brewer in need of a new brew kettle
« on: May 23, 2016, 08:56:18 pm »
So, Ive been brewing about a year and I started with a cheap pot for brewing. I need to replace it. Im a partial mash brewer and I use my stove top. I was thinking of switching to one of these:

or
http://www.amazon.com/Update-International-SPS-20-Stainless-Steel/dp/B000X1JO6W/ref=psdc48_t1_B000FRJJSM_B000X1JO6W

any suggestions?  My budget is under 100 8)

Of the two, I'd go with the NB kettle. the other kettle is only 5 gallon. I think if you are going to upgrade, you should upgrade to full boil.

One thing to think about is if your stove can handle the weight of the full kettle, as well as the task of heating that much wort.

Another thing to consider is whether the kettle will fit under your vent hood in your kitchen.

my current pot is 11inches tall and 12.5 inches wide.  I can go a little bigger than that.

I think Id rather this one

Anyone ever use?

Both of those kettles would be considered economy. nothing wrong with them, but not much better than the cheap 5 gallon you are using now. Main benefit would be full boil.

If you go to a restaurant supply store you will get a better deal and may be able to find a much higher quality used for less.
Don't let the bastards cheer you up.

Yeah, I'm still using a 10 gallon restaurant supply SS kettle. Haven't broken down and gone modern yet (probably will @ some point) . Got it for a better price than I could find anywhere, given the quality.

hmm I dont know what to do then lol.  Im thinking of going BIAB but dont know if I can do that with 32 quart pot or not considering my limitations to pot size.
http://www.amazon.com/Update-International-APT-40-Aluminum-Stock/dp/B000X1MG1M/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1464115556&sr=8-1&keywords=40+quart+stock+pot

that may work

If you are looking for 5 gallon batches, if stick with 8 gallon minimum.

looks like Ill just get the pot and use it once for a partial mash brew before I move outside and go with propane.
