If it were me, I'd go to the local brewpub with some family/friends and just get whatever looks good in the 3-6% ABV range. When I want to make a beer memorable I find it's not just the beer, it who/where I enjoy said beer with.

Good point. I had not considered that. Atmosphere can definitely make an event /evening more enjoyable. Or, even a beverage.

For palate impact, I'd put cucumbers and iceberg lettuce ahead of Natural Light.

I don't know - Natty Light is like a Wee Heavy next to Coors Light IMO.

I'd probably hit my beer cellar and pick out a barleywine I've been sitting on. Three months isn't quite worthy of one of my few remaining Thomas Hardy's, but something along those lines.

Or Orval. Can never go wrong with that.

I recently had that dilemma. I had prostrate cancer and had surgery in April. I didn't have a beer for six weeks. You want your first beer to be fantastic. So, I picked my favorite beer, a Porter I brewed and entered into NHC. His favorite beer is what I would recommend.

I can't remember dinners from last week let alone the flavor of a beer when I was a teenager, I mean 21.

Agreed. I had my share of it (and cheaper mass produced stuff, too) before the craft beer thing. Insipid and boring isn't the same as having off flavors.

I think that's the point... Coors Light tastes like nothing so you can slam 12 of them without getting tired of them and at 3.2% abv you can still walk home. 

In certain circumstances (like sitting outside around a campfire) a Bud Light isn't that bad (for what is is...)

As for my "special occasion" beer, I'd probably go with Chimay Blue Label.

There's something about it that I just don't like. Probably the fermentation character, because I get the same flavor out of WY2007. I'd gladly take a Coors Banquet or MGD over Bud if I had to choose.
