New all grain hippy recipe
« on: July 22, 2016, 04:00:53 pm »
I brewed up a mildly hippy pale ale to see if I could handle a beer with a lot of late hops.  And now I wish I had bottled it instead of filling up my tap a draft

Bitting bitter
1 gallon batch
2 lbs 2 row
3.3 oz victory
3.4 oz crystal 40
3.55 oz munich light
3 oz flaked oats

3 g of admiral for 60 min
3 g of cascade for 10 min
3 g of centennial for 10 min
3 g of amarillo at flame out

Og 1.062
Ibu 34.32

So I'm guessing the answer is no?

I can say it's not bitter but it's not my favorite style yet

That looks pretty mild to me. Scaled up you'd be looking at 1/2oz per 5 gal.

What don't you like?

Edit to add - total of 1.5oz late hops. I often add 4 times that amount of late hops

So the hop flavor and aroma are too much? If so, hop character in hoppy beers will fade by the week. Give it a week or two and you may like it a lot. Honestly doesn't look like a lot of hops.

Right now it's the hop taste.

This thread isn't about hippies at all!  :P
