Live Oak Wood Aging?
« on: November 02, 2023, 06:07:06 pm »
Our backyard has a coast live oak (Quercus agrifolia) that recently had to be professionally trimmed. The crew left some of the wood, and I was wondering if it might be possible to chunk up a piece and use it for oak aging a beer (like using staves or spirals). Presumably it would need to season until well-dried, but I thought it might be a fun experiment to try. Has anyone done this with "backyard wood"? Is there any reason I shouldn't use coast live oak for oaking a beer?
