Wyeast 1968 coagulating on stir plate
« on: September 18, 2016, 07:59:12 am »
Is it normal for wyeast 1968 is coagulate on the the stir plate?  I have never seen this before but it's my first time using this yeast.

I've seen both Wyeast and White Labs do this, with a couple of different strains. It doesn't have an effect on anything, so keep calm and brew on.

Yes.  I too was amazed when I first used it.  One doesn't have to worry about long conditioning times, waiting for the beer to drop clear with that strain!

If you look on White Labs page, 002 which is equivalent to 1968, is listed as very high for its flocculation properties. That is what it looks like, normal behavior for that flocculation rate.

Egg drop soup.  It's completely normal and one of my favorite yeasts.

Cottage Cheese = completely normal for this strain (1968 & 002).
