I did my own calcs and was surprised to confirm that 1/4" would be fine.

I don't want to hijack the thread but wanted to ask about the mash tun.  It looks like you have enough space for a cooler.  If that is what you are planning to use, make sure you have some protection from the heat from the boil kettle burner, or don't start your burner until all your sparging is done & you've removed the cooler.
