What do you think about sweet beers
« on: September 23, 2016, 06:17:21 pm »
And I mean really a sweet taste, almost like a dessert.

A couple a weeks ago we went to a Cantina & Brew Pub in Florida where I taste a Imperial Stout but this time it really taste like sugar. I've been making beer a few months ago so I'm pretty ignorant in lots of thing yet. I was wondering, what do you think about these new types of beer? Lately I've been seeing ingredients like a special type of chocolate brand, cotton candy and vanilla ice.

Ick.  To each their own but most aficionados would scowl at anything like that.  Leinie's Berry Weiss, anyone?  ;)

I just finished a batch where I add (real sugar)  root beer syrup at 60min in the boil .It boils off the root beer  flavor and leaves me a  vanilla and caramel finish My friend can't get  enough of it

To answer the question, I hate them. Chocolate (do like breakfast stout's restraint, though) , candy, peanut butter/jelly or other kiddie flavored beers are usually a dealbreaker.

Those overly sweet imperial stouts with ridiculous adjuncts are all the rage right now. Often barrel aged for extra sweetness.

Personally I am rarely a fan. I don't mind the adjuncts, even silly adjuncts, when done well but often they are not done well. I also rarely like the overly sweet stouts. Even when done well a couple ounces is enough.

I made a milk stout for my daughter's wedding in August two years ago.  Because it was hot out I thought the sweetness would be appreciated by a "mixed" crowd.  It went over very well.

Then I noticed a trend of sweet stouts appearing.  I thought it was just me.

Though I loved that beer, I haven't made it since.
Beer...Now there's a temporary solution!
