That's cool. They must have hit the point where they can scale and support a ton of strains. Good for them.

Are the "double pitches" with 200B cells?
EDIT - disregard. Saw it at the top of the page. 150B +

My local homebrew store told me he went to Omega in Chicago and they told him they had no plans to add there pro strain in the homebrewing market. I guess they changed their minds, but this was almost a year ago when I had this conversation. Interesting but good.

It seems that Northern Brewer has an exclusive on the homebrewer size of Omega's pro line.

Coincidence that Anheuser just bought Northern Brewer? I dunno.

Yes, that is the case on the exclusivity according to my LHBS.  No coincidence, but again...

Deals like this do not happen so quickly when massive corporations are involved. Even amending an existing contract with something relatively benign can take months considering the worst case scenarios.

I'm sure the deal was signed and sealed months ago.

ETA - Not saying Omega or NB are massive, more that it wouldn't happen quickly post AB. I'm sure it still took a good amount of time.

Looks like they've got quite a few brett blends.  I need to get a batch of sour beer going...

No it's not from the acquisition. It had been in the works before.

I am willing to bet that the negotiations for the acquisition of NB by AB predates the start of discussions with NB and OYL...just sayin'.

Sure, but that sort of stuff cannot be shared easily considering AB being a public company. NB players may have known, and AB may have known about the deal with Omega, but I doubt Omega knew.

Maybe Omega was secretly bought as well!

Early this year a new Sports Authority store opened a mile from my house and a few months ago the company went belly up. I wondered WTF until I realized that as long as it takes to get something like that okayed the plans for this new store had to be in the works way before any thought of bankruptcy or going out of business was in the cards.

Regardless of any buyout, that is one sh*t-ton of new yeast strains. Time for Jamil and Chris England to update their Wyeast vs White labs chart.

I'm interested in quite a few, but ground transit is way too slow and 2day transit is a bit pricey. Might need to do a club buy so we can spread out the shipping costs.
