Is there a monthly bottle swap here?
« on: November 08, 2016, 05:33:10 pm »
about ten years ago, I was a member of a forum that did a monthly bottle swap, where you were randomly paired with another brewer and you exchanged homebrews. Does this happen here?

There has been a spring and fall beer swap the last few years that was touted as as a random pairing which appeared to go off pretty well.

Where is Jim?
Pure speculation - he got a new motorcycle and is weaving it up and down mountain roads.

I'm always up for another swap, but it doesn't have to be an organized thing necessarily. I've swapped beer with several brewers with a simple PM.

Yeah, it seemed very abrupt. Recent threads around that time, saw no hostility or anything else to put him off, so it's a little concerning

I hope Jim is well too, I miss his posts, he added a lot of energy.
The swaps we had are great but it seemed a bit of work for those who needed to organize it. I liked reading the reviews and it was fun gather up local offerings too.

I'm brand new here, and have a full time job, but I'd be willing to help if people want to bring it back

Does anyone know him personally?  It would be nice to know how he is doing.

I don't know the full history of homebrewer bottle swaps, but the threads are here and you can get a feel by reading through them.  It's essentially to pick a theme, work through the agreements (# of bottles), have a sign-up-by date, generate a list of who swaps with whom (and to try to pair with people who have not shared directly before).  People can share shipping addresses directly.

When I've participated it's been a great experience.  The feedback is more than helpful and I end up trying beers that are a bit outside my normal style.

Thanks for giving it a thought.  If interested, maybe start by doing a draft of the theme & agreements and see what homebrewers have input?   Cheers.

Honestly, and just from reading on here, I think Denny is the closest link to Jim. I may have completely misunderstood their interactions here though, having no concrete evidence to support my thinking, just know they seemed to have a very friendly vibe between them
