Online Home Brew Stores
« on: December 04, 2016, 07:47:09 am »
I can't get to my lhbs as often as I would like so I have to rely on online stores. I had mostly been using Northern Brewer. I was happy with their customer service and selection, not so much with shipping speed.
Now that they are being bought out its an easy decision to switch.
Any suggestions?
In addition to the obvious quality, customer service, and selection, I am hoping for fast shipping to New England. Also, it would be a plus if they had consistently good prices as opposed to "deals". I'm a little sick of the game these places play with a different deal every day. Multiple times I would have gotten a better deal a few days later but had no way of knowing.
Don't let the bastards cheer you up.

MoreBeer - you should get stuff in 1 or 2 days if it is available in PA.

Not only are they fast, but shipping is free on orders over $59. And, their prices are lower than NB.

Another Morebeer fan. Just ordered some stuff on Friday. Shipped that day and as mentioned, shipping was free (I was  $60+).

Edit - Having said that, I try to buy locally @ Great Fermentations (my LHBS) any time I can before I look elsewhere. But when it comes to hops, I use a hop retailer like yakimavalley hops.com for most of mine. Occasionally I buy varieties from Farmhouse or Hop Heaven.

I also like Morebeer but they don't always have every brand of grain I want. I also like Rebel Brewer. Revel has lots of grain varieties. They charge the true cost for shipping but their grain prices are very low to compensate.

I just ordered my new Ss brewtech kettle from www.homebrewsupply.com.  Fast shipping and they offer a 7% discount for AHA members.

Ritebrew.com

Very good prices, reasonable and quick shipping. Plus you can preorder yeast packets from Wyeast and Omega and have them very fresh when they arrive.

I like Rebelbrewer in Nashville and Morebeer. Our relatively new local store is nice. I always try to do local, but sometimes you can't.

+3 for Rebel Brewer. Great selection and they get it on the truck fast. I have literally ordered and had a ship notice the same day. I've waited as much as a week and a half before shipping at another very popular vendor.

If I can't use the LHBS, MoreBeer is my go to. Fast shipping, and good inventory. I'd stopped buying from NB in favor of them long before NB sold out. It's nice knowing yeast only have to spend 24 hours in transit.
Corn is a fine adjunct in beer.

And don't buy stale beer.

Ritebrew customer here as well! Always same day shipping using spee-dee shipping (std ground) which is next day for me. He must be moving volume because his inventory is really growing.

I've tried many over the last decade and try to give them all the benefit of the doubt.  I have to go out of my way by 2 hours or so to visit the LHBS, and the single reason I don't is that all hops are listed for around $2.80/ounce.

1. morebeer.com.  When ordering yeast, be sure to order an icepack or two.  Wish they had organic base malt.
2. yakimavalleyhops.com.  Consistently great.
3. bargainfittings.com.  Also consistent.  In particular, don't overlook the silicone gaskets.

Based on this thread I'll take a look at Rebel Brewer, thank you.  The one thing I'm missing is water filtration to reduce TDS, and I'm not sure if that means simply getting setup with RO.  Would love to know if there's recommendations of a supplier for such things.

Cheers!

I haven't used NB or Midwest since MoreBeer opened their PA warehouse. I have also had good luck with:

Rebel Brewer (good grain selection)
Adventures in Homebrewing (great for kegs)
Austin Homebrew Supply

For hops I primarily use Farmhouse Brewing Supplies and/or Yakima Valley Hops (especially for newer/experimental varieties, and harder-to-find imports), but I will usually place an order with Hop Heaven, Freshops and/or Hops Direct most seasons as well.

Finally got around to starting a homebrewing blog: The Hop Whisperer

Thanks for all the input everyone. I'll browse these places. Morebeer sounds promising. Also good info about kegs, Etc. I have been looking unsuccessfully for a good deal on used 2.5 gallon kegs.
