Custom immersion chiller questions
« on: December 28, 2016, 05:28:06 am »
I just got a really cool custom immersion chiller and I had a few questions before I use it. There is black discoloration around where it is soldered, on 3 sides there is a copper wire soldered to the coils to provide support as it is pretty large.  I cleaned it several times with barkeepers and then boiled the whole thing for 15-20min, but did not make much progress on removing the discoloration.

1. Do you see any issues with using this?  I am not concerned about sanitation, bc it would be boiled, more concerned about any potential off flavors / health issues?

2. Should I soak it in star san to continue to try to clean it?

Just wanted to throw this out to see if I am inventing problems or not.  Would like to be able to use this as it works very well!

Try soaking it in vinegar (the distilled stuff you get at the grocery store).

How big is that, hard to to tell from the picture.

You could also soak it in PBW.
