Beer Contest
« on: January 19, 2017, 09:43:49 am »
I am entering a brewing contest where a person is preparing the Wort and we are responsible for turning out the finished beer.
Problem is they won't tell us what grains were used until we pickup the wort.
Not sure how to prepare for this.
I would like to have yeast and hops ready to go.
Anyone have experience on this?

You're going to have to assess the wort by tasting it. Is it light or dark? Is it malty or dry? Is it roasty? Does it taste like Pilsner malt or Munich? Is it carmelly? etc. Then you can decide what hops, additional malts or yeast might enhance it or make it into something special.

A neutral yeast strain would probably be a safe bet. You could taste the wort after you get it to make some decisions about dry hopping or adding other ingredients post-fermentation. I wouldn't commit to buying hops until you know what you're making.
