I had not looked into the repeater -  that sounds interesting, but since I typically check the Tilts (I have 2) on the stainless fermenters in a chest freezer as fermentation chamber, I wonder if it is worthwhile inthat setting (another lid to transmit through).  Any thoughts?

I set the repeater on top of the fridge probably ~3 feet from the floating Tilt which is inside a BrewBucket inside the fridge. It has no trouble grabbing the Tilt signal and sending it upstairs to me.

...except when the battery dies.

It comes with a suction cup hook that can be positioned more conveniently as well.

I was considering zip tying it to the freezer handle since I never open the freezer. (Freezer over fridge)

I guess I am a lazy Tilt owner. I read it with the app on my phone once or twice a day when I walk by the fermenter. No fancy graphs, but, it’s still awesome.

Thanks for the interesting graph.  I wonder if the same thing happens under the phone app when a battery on the submerged Tilt goes dead.  I assumed it would just not connect...so no further reading, but maybe it acts similarly?

I imagine it just wouldn’t connect anymore.

Has anyone used a tilt together with a floating dip tube in their fermenter?  I'd imagine the dip tube would likely interfere with the tilt?

Thanks.  I'm definitely going to pick one of this up then!

My hydrometer and my Tilt are giving vastly different measurements (1056 versus 1048) while floating in the same batch of beer.

Both read 1.000 in 61F water right before taking the pictures below.

Is this kind of discrepancy normal? The first ten or so batches I brewed with the Tilt I had no hydrometer to compare. I just trusted Tilt.

Am I doing something wrong?

I’ve never had such a big difference.  Did you calibrate it in water first?

You can still use it to determine when fermentation is completed, as it will hold its final value for a few days.

I did calibrate in water. It read 0 after 3 pt adjustment in 61F water.  I am wondering if the battery is getting low. That's the only thing I can think of.

I found this on the Tilt website FAQ:
Q. How long will my battery last?
A. The lithium CR123A battery will last 3 months for our first generation models (blue-green circuit board) or 12 months for our second generation and later models (black circuit board). The second generation model will last 24 months in sleep mode.

I purchased my Tilt (second generation) in February of 2019 so I think the battery must be starting to die.

Shoot them a note to describe what you’re seeing. I’ve had great results when sending an email to Marcus. I had some issues with the repeater battery. He’s quick to answer and goes way out of his way to make the issue right.

That being said, all my variance issues have been on the FG end due to crud accumulation throwing off the reading. Nothing like what you’re seeing.

I’ve had very similar experiences. Reads 1.000 in distilled water but about .010 points off on OG on wort near 1.070. Hydrometer says 1.070 and Tilt says 1.060. I’ve compared with 2 additional hydrometers and my refractometer. Oddly FG will read the same from Tilt to hydrometer sample.
