Westvleteren 12
« on: March 04, 2017, 06:04:11 pm »
i recently took a trip to Belgium and was able to acquire a couple un opened bottles of W12.

I'm very new to home-brew and was wondering if it is possible to capture the yeast strain in my W12 bottles so maybe i could try and reproduce the type of yeast used and perhaps clone the beer.

thanks in advance!

Yep, same strain. I'm envious - damn good beer. I overpaid for a few bottles online once. Great beer, though.

Yeah, for sure. I wanted to try it to see if it remotely justified the hype. It was excellent,, but didn't come close to justifying what I paid. I can't say I liked it any better than Rochefort 10 or St B Abt 12. I love to make it!

I agree, Jon.  Excellent beer, but overhyped because it's so hard to get.

I thought the grain bill was a blend of pils malt and pale malt?

Yeah, may be, but it makes an almost unnoticeable difference.
