IMO yuengling is fine. It doesn't deserve to be crapped on, but also doesn't deserve the fanboyism that it has. Solid inexpensive beer is always welcome in my belly.

Yeah, I like it for the $. The rest is just hype, at least partly from its limited distribution. It's weird, I've had tons of it (bought in other states) and just getting it here now.

Hey Sean, wasn't it a letter from August Schell's that also went viral. We plan to stop there making our drive to HomebrewCon.

Could be, I was working from memory.

If I can make it to NHC I'll try to join you at Schell's. It looks great.

Beer is like porn. You can buy it, but it's more fun to make your own.

Thankfully, there's less of that fanboy issue here where I live...my area is fiercely proud of everything local/Maryland, and Yuengling is just another outside product to many. The local beer of choice is a 10-ounce can of Budweiser. (Yes, ten ounces, one of I think two counties nationwide that get cans that size. Somehow that makes it OK even though it's brewed in Virginia.)

I think the reason I've become such a big fan of Yuengling is it's the only low ABV beer I can find fresh. All the more sessionable craft beers don't sell well compared to the big IPAs, so they linger on the shelf till they're well past their prime.
Corn is a fine adjunct in beer.

And don't buy stale beer.

Had a Yuengling tonight actually. I found it to be a nice change. Amber in color and a nice flavor. Way better IMO than an AmberBock. What I didn't get is them selling at a craft price.

When we get the times all firmed up, we will send a message.

We met head brewer Jace Marti at a fest in MI, really good guy.

Yuengling at craft prices? I love that beer but wouldn't buy it at that price point. Here a 12-pack is $12. A 24-pack is $20.

It is newly distributed here. It was at a restaurant and everyone was buying it.
Guess they wanted to make their money before everyone figured out it is in the same BMC class.

I agree that Yuengling is a nice beer, and I enjoy it immensely when I back in the Land of Scrapple.

But, I also think PBR is a fine beer.  And Yuengling isn't any better or worse than PBR. Both of them are made at factories.  My guess is that Yuenging is a craft beer because they busted their union several years ago.  Sweaty clean-shaven Teamster employees have been replaced by bearded Brooklynites in skinny jeans.

Lived in Ohio most of my life without Yuengling. When it came to Ohio, everyone went crazy. I remember having friends. Efire that that would just decide to make the drive to Pick to get it. They would not share much so I never had it. Once it was available, I decided quickly that it was not for me. It's just underwhelming, and I'm not often looking for cheap and lots of volume. Just me, and thanks to a post here a couple years back, I tried Hamm's. If I need cheap and enjoyable, it fits the bill perfectly

Hamm's, I've walked past it a million times. I see a lot of folks packing to the checkout.

Yes the discussion in here that it came up in was about BJCP sensory perception study courses where it was described as a great American version of a classic German (I think it was helles, but not certain) either way   I enjoy it and can usually find 30 packs of cans for $12.99-$13.99

Damn. Most restaraunts down here sell it for 50 cents more a pour than BMC.

I'll have to keep my eyes open for Hamms, sounds right up my alley.

Any craft brewery is a factory. They may have Victorian era technology, but a factory none the less.

No knowledge on the union thing.

I remember when Yuengling lager launched in 1987.  By the time I turned 21, about 3 years later, you could walk into any bar and ask for a "Lager" and you got a Yuengling. Now that's pretty much all they are known for, but I remember them having a pretty decent porter back in the day.
