San Diego Conference - What would make it awesomer?

Yup, the title says it all.

Keep the thread clean and serious my friends and neighbors... Besides, we already did the hooker thing in Oakland.

How about instead of a pub-crawl, rent a big boat, have local breweries out, and do a booze cruise?

Of course, I guess it is fun to see the different breweries, but at least you won't have to deal with all the traffic!

Carne asada fries!

I'm extremely serious: find a way to involve carne asada fries and I'll attend, guaranteed.

I also really like the idea of doing something on the beach, but I don't know how feasible that would be in terms of serving beer.

Beer is like porn. You can buy it, but it's more fun to make your own.

Drew,

Unlike this year, we will be flying.  We were somewhat familiar with Denver, and very familiar with the Bay Area.  We used the light rail in both cities and did not bother with a car when at those conferences.  We did not use beerbybart.com, but that is a great resource.

Just did some google searches.  It looks like there is a trolley stop not far from the hotel.  So far so good.  We are not familiar with SD. Some links on the conference page would help us out seeking a beer off the hotel grounds.

Just looked for one, found this link below.  Do the locals have more?  Will there be a list of other things to see and do using the trolley that are not beer related?  This can really help one have mobility without the cost and responsibility of a rent a car.

Edit - If my wife has the social package, info like this will be a big hit for things to do during the day.

Agreed on this...the wife and son may come along but will not be attending any beer events ( son is too young and the wife doesn't drink beer...I know can you believe it...but she does support my habit, um, I mean hobby so I'm keeping her around ).

If the Padres are playing at home during the conference, a group trip to Petco Park would be awesome!!! I saw that they did it in Minnesota at their new digs.

Has the hotel been announced yet?

Nope, it hasn't, but I _am_ accepting bribes!  ;)

No announcements.  I heard "rumors" from someone at the conference, that had talked to somebody who knew a guy from San Diego.  So it must be true!

If it were in Philly.  But seriously,  San Diego is a great place, I'm just sorry I probably won't be able to make it.  The booze cruise sounds like a great idea.  Keep us drunks off the street, for a while anyway.

you can check out http://sandiegobrewersguild.org/ for a bunch of good info on pubs and brewery locations.  They'll also post up any events taking place as well.  Theres a great area full of beer places within a 4 minute drive of the conference hotel (if I'm guess the hotel right at least).

oh...and carne asada fries within a 1.5 minute drive, or a short walk...or really any taco shop, so basically at least every .5-1 mile in any direction...

the problem with a beach crawl is there are no good beer spots by the beach.  Its all BMC, well....just about everywhere has some Stone or Ballast point...I vote for a booze cruise.  Alcohol is illegal on the sand or grass, but its ok in the water...just get an innertube and you're good to go...
