Sharing Beer at National Homebrew Conference
« on: April 15, 2017, 06:50:15 pm »
So I read the FAQ, and the answer around sharing beer was very straightforward. I know I can share beer, but can a veteran of the NHC tell me just how one goes about this? I will be attending for the first time in MPLS and I also from the area which makes sharing very easy. Do people just carry around back packs of bottles? Is this allowed? I will be staying at home so, it's not like I can just run to the hotel room. That said, I do have access to all the beers I have now and would love to share.

Also, if anyone is looking for recommendations, I am happy to provide them. Minneapolis has an ever evolving beer scene with plenty of great options.

Thanks in advance.

In previous years, I would bring beer to share in line waiting for the banquet.  Since there's no banquet this year and the distance is greater for me to travel, I may not bring anything.  Trying to keep my luggage to carry on weight and not have to check anything.

That said...if you're pouring, I'll have a taste :)

Edit:  Of course, there is the forum meetup if you want to share as well.

I'd even go so far as to say that if you see somebody pouring and you don't know them, ask for a sip anyways.  99.99% of the time you'll get some too.  And most of the time, that .001 is because the bottle/keg just ran dry.

Yep, walk up to a stranger and ask, "Wanna try some of my Imperial Blood Orange Bourbon Barrel Black Belgian Session New England IPA?"

Exactly this. I have a cooler backpack that I carry around. NHC is one of the few places that I travel where I usually bring a full wine check and leave with an empty one. Since there's no banquet this year, all that beer will be shared during the conference. Either at seminars, meetups, or even walking around the vendor booths. If I have a bottle open and there's something left in it, just ask and you'll get a taste. You did bring your glass, right? lol

whenever I open a bottle around 10 friends, there's always someone I've never met who sees it and sticks his/her glass in for a pour.  And that's cool.  Although once last year I did screw with a guy. "it's ice cider, and it's only for friends. *glare*  Just kidding, here you go!"   ;D

Eh, sometimes I just go in and out of my forum usage.  NHC is coming up and I'm starting to make my google mymap for the drive out and for places to go while there... Figured I better swing by and see what folks are talking about lol.

I want ice cider.

That was my only entry that didn't advance in First Round, so I've got extra and will be bringing like a gallon jug or so of it. *shrug* sometimes the judges are wrong.    ;)

I look forward to pouring it over my head and guzzling it.... I mean... having a sample.

Thank you for asking this question! Another first time NHC attendee here and I was wondering the same thing.

I have a couple things I think I am going to bring along:
- American Wheat w/ "Experimental Lemon Zest" hops
- American Wheat w/ "BRU-1" hops
- American Amber w/ "Belma" hops (https://www.homebrewersassociation.org/forum/index.php?board=10.0)

I kind of like to play around with new hops...
