Hi all,
I just switched to a new mashing method of recirculating my mash in a Kettle mash tun. I have a false bottom, but even after vorlauf, I'm getting some small bits of the mash into the kettle, not much, and very small particles. I'm using an Anvil boil kettle with a kettle screen. Am I liekly to experience negative affects and what would they be? I feel like a noob when I change my process... The good news is, with a bit of modification, and a sparge ring. My efficiency is in the mid 70's so happy there. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Agreed - no problem with a few bits of grain.  But, if you want to easily filter them out, you can use a simple food strainer (also sometimes called a soup strainer) to easily scoop out the bits that are in the boil kettle:

I strain with a little juice strainer when "too much" gets through. A little isn't a big deal.

Grain husk does contain silicate, so you should avoid getting that in your kettle. But the kernels shouldn't be a problem. In most cases, it shouldn't matter if you get a little husk or kernel in the kettle.

I follow the "RDWHAHB, but try and still fix the problem" approach to grain bits getting into the boil. It's been an issue for me since I switched to a false bottom, and although I'm taking steps to prevent this from happening it isn't a huge concern at the moment. I have other issues with my brewing system that could be resolved with a less effort, so it's just not a priority.

This looks like my kinda thing. I've got an old BIAB bag that I made out of voile that should do the trick. thanks for the idea!

I've rarely had a decent vorlauf and always seem to get a lot of junk in my boil. Ice thought about a sieve bit wouldn't they cause some wicked HSA?
