HERMS Pot Size
« on: April 25, 2017, 06:46:48 am »
I am looking into building an electric HERMS system and will be doing 10 gallon batches and no sparging. I am using a 20 gallon boil kettle right now with a 120qt cooler (30 gallon capacity) for a mash tun. My current efficiency is around 60-65% in my current cooler set up. I know with the HERMS set up I will be recirculating and getting better efficiency so my question is concerning my pot sizes for my mash tun and hot liquor tank. My original thought was to get two more pots at 30 gallons each and use my 20 gallon pot for my boil kettle. Can I get away with buying two more 20 gallon pots and still be able to make beers that are higher in abv?  As always, thanks for the help.
