Hello everyone!

   I am Canadian, currently living in Nova Scotia. I will be traveling to Las Vegas on May 17th with my wife and another couple and we hope to try some American craft beer. We are lucky here and have a pretty good selection of our own local craft beer however we do not have any American options. Can you give me some recommendations on craft beer to try? My wife an I love IPAs and the couple we are traveling with are into porters and stouts. We have plans to check out Boulder Dam Brewing Company on our way to the Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam but would love to pop into some craft beer tap rooms on the Vegas Strip as well as anything you can recommend to try from the beer store.

It may be a bit out of the way, but there's a World of Beer to the south east of Vegas.  It lists it as "Henderson" but looking at the map it's kinda between Vegas and Henderson close to Whitney Ranch. 

I've never been to Vegas, but I guessed there might be a WoB there.  I went to one in Savannah GA and they had a great draft and bottle selection.  I can't tell you what they will have, but I would presume a few local ones from Nevada, California, etc plus European beers in bottles.  The one in Savannah had an amazing Belgian selection, if you're into that.

There are a number.  A few come to mind: Ellis Island a block off the strip on Koval has cheap beer they brew themselves on the premesis,  not the hoppiest if you're into IPAs; and Main Street Station has cheap beers @ the bar in the casino (same beer is more in the restaurant).  Teneya is @ the north end of town, I've never made it that far.  Sin City is in the Miracle Mile Mall in the Planet Hollywood - excellent beers there.

I have to go out to Vegas a couple of times a year for work, here's my 2 cents:

On the strip:
There's a somewhat pricey place called Public House at the Venetian that has a pretty decent beer list, sometimes has cask offerings.  Plus they have poutine, so that's a win.  I'm not crazy about Ellis Island at all.  There's a souvenir shop next door to MGM grand (it is Grand Canyon-themed) that has an ok selection of cans and bottles at not-too-unreasonable prices for the Strip.  Since there are no open container laws, it isn't a bad spot to grab something to wander around with.

Since you're going to the Grand Canyon you will end up driving through Henderson - there is a ridiculous place out there called "Nacho Daddy" with fun Mexican food (Thai nachos!!) and a decent beer list.  For a while they used to pour a black & tan using Arrogant Bastard and Old Rasputin that was awesome.

As far as local beers, I haven't found anything Nevada-based that knocks my socks off, but San Tan (from AZ) is pretty good, and you can sometimes find stuff from Kern River Brewing Co, which is generally excellent.  Some of the larger San Diego-based breweries have a presence, and you can get Green Flash, Stone, and Ballast Point beers a lot of places. Dogfish Head 60 minute IPA is all over the place.

I'll add another recommendation for the Public House in the Venetian. It's not the cheapest place or the largest selection but they keep a good mix of beer and it's the only place to (sometimes) get cask beer.

The pub in the Monte Carlo has a larger selection, it's a little cheaper and it's mostly Nevada, Utah and California beers. It's comparable to the Todd English pub in the Aria and the Yardhouse. Any of those three would be fine options for a wide range of beers. The pub in the Monte Carlo is a little out of the way so it's usually quieter if you need a break from the strip without leaving the strip.

Sin City Brewing has a few tap stations on the strip. Most of their beers are pretty bad but the hefeweizen is surprisingly good. It's one of my favorite non-German hefeweizens. It's dirt cheap for Vegas.

Some other options:

There's a very expensive place in the Wynn that I would skip because it's selection is less impressive than other places on the strip at a higher price.

There's an Irish pub in New York New York that is always busy with a light selection.

Burger between Mandalay Bay and Monte Carlo has a small but nice selection. It's basically the Monte Carlo pub selection scaled down and a little more expensive.

Gordon Ramsay Burgr has a small and pricey selection. The food is great but you'll stand in line for a long time. It's worth going for the food but not worth the line for a beer.

Gordon Ramsay pub and grill has a similar selection of beer. A few more English beers and English food. It's nice but not worth the cost for beer. It's close to a number of other places with larger and cheaper options.


There are new craft beer places and existing places are adding more craft beer all the time. Now there's very few places on the strip where you can't get a decent beer. You don't have to walk from one end to the other to find a decent beer. If you go in one hotel and don't find something you want, the next hotel probably will.
