My favorite part was the Rahr Malting tour.  Amazing facility, great beer and the food from Northbound was excellent.

NOLA was my first conference in 96.  (I have now been to 17 more).  It was especially memorable because it was our 20th wedding anniversary, we were staying at a B&B in the Garden District with several of my in laws, and for some reason I wanted to go to beer seminars.  We almost didn't make it to 21 years.
I love NOLA and try to go at least once a year - we stay in the same area as the convention center, the Central Business District, and walk around from there.  Plenty to do without stepping foot onto Bourbon Street.
My second conference was the one in Portland, which is also one of my favorite places.  Woo Hoo for next year!

I'm assuming you've been to the Avenue Pub? Let me know next time you're going and I can offer some suggestions. There have been 3 new breweries opened up just so far this year.

Ha! Yeah, cropdusting was fairly prominent especially on Club Night, but still not as bad as Bourbon. Bourbon has a smell that can't really be described. It's many levels of gross. About the only positive thing I can say about it is that at least there are more varied options than there were after Katrina (where for a year or two, everything was either another Tropical Isle or a strip club).

Vegas could be good. Cheap flights and cheap hotel rooms.

Yeah, but it's not a real town, like Orlando. All phony and make-believe--no character, whatsoever. Would never, ever go there.

Nashville hosted the Southern Brewer's Conference last August (and again this August) and while the conference itself is small the convention center is more than big enough to host HomebrewCon (it's way bigger than the one in Minneapolis). Not sure what legal issues there are but I know they have fixed a lot of the beer laws in Tenn over the last 5 years. Didn't seem like there was any problems with drinking or serving.

I wonder if AHA would entertain a Southern Chapter so those in TX, AR, OK, LA, MS, AL, GA, TN, FL, etc can participate?  Routinely visiting the NE coast, North, and West Coast is pretty cost prohibitive.

I know there has been a push for Texas, but the issue was serving laws. I don't think that's an issue anymore.

Hi folks, Thomas from the National Homebrew Club (Ireland) here. Wondering could people give me a rough budget if we were to send someone over to HomeBrew Con 2018? I can look up accommodation prices obviously but what sort of spend should we be looking at for transport to and from the event, food and drinks on the day etc? Cheers!

Outside of the hotel and flights and actual conference registration, I'd say *maybe* $300 for the three days? I generally get out for a quick lunch and dinner, maybe not even both, with a couple beers. Pours at the conference are of course free and the social events tend to go fairly late, so I don't get out of the conference center much.

I don't know if it's any different for international speakers, but in the past the AHA has covered the conference registration for presenters.

Contact Matt Boilling (matt@brewersaqssociation.org) and ask him to get direct answers.  I'm on the Governing Committee, but I don't recall if we covered anything other than registration for the international speakers this year.

I noticed the hotel is available for NHC on the homebrewcon website at the Doubletree.  Is this the only hotel?  How many rooms does the Doubletree have?  $189 plus 15.3% is a little steeper than previous years but booked a room anyways.

Typically the hotel wasn't available until after registration.
