Keezer wood size for collar
« on: July 18, 2017, 04:32:45 PM »
I am fairly new to home brewing (March 2017).  I am going to build a Keezer from a Frigidaire chest freezer from Home Depot.  The length between the bolts on the hinge is 7 inches, but there is a little space for adjustment to a little more than 7.25 inches.  I was thinking about using 2x8s for the collar since the real size of a 2x8 is 1.5x7.25.  Anyone see any problems with this?

Running the taps through the collar?  Should be fine.  I used 2x4's but it is a coffin keezer.

Go as short as you can while still making it easy to plumb and work in. I have 2x6 which is snug when it comes to line, but less empty space to keep cold and 2" shorter is a welcome change from when I had a 2x8.

It is always nice to have the collar tall enough allow kegs standing on the motor.  You can carb them while waiting for space to dispense.

This works so long as you are tall enough to hoist the other kegs into the kegerator over the top.  I'm short (5'7") and my 2 by 4" collar is about as high as I can do.

Enjoy your project- its awfully nice to have draft beer!

Without drilling into the freezer or drilling new holes in the hinges, 2x8 would be the size for these hinges.
