Yeah, I enjoy the old beer ads. I guess "Healthfullness" of beer was their angle at the time.

Very fun to read - but I had to look up biliousness:

Biliousness: A term used in the 18th and 19th centuries pertaining to bad digestion, stomach pains, constipation, and excessive flatulence (passing gas). The quantity or quality of the bile was thought to be at fault for the condition. Hence, the name "biliousness." ("Bilious" derives from the French "bilieux," which in turn came from "bilis," the Latin term for "bile.") Biliousness was generally laid to high living. The "cure" was moderation and frequent visits to the doctor.

I admit that I have seen the last symptom after a night of sampling homebrews, but I will accept that result on occasion.....

I agree these are great.  I have a couple of old magazines with all kinds of weird ads in them.  The homebrew thing back in the 20s is interesting because if prohibition went from 1920 until 1933 I would assume that homebrewing got relatively popular during that time (I also assume that there was some dreadful beer made).  So would the ads for Schlitz come out more towards the end of that time because people had gotten used to brewing their own beer for 13 years?  I assume these ads were not DURING prohibition because Schlitz would not have made beer... unless they made NA or near-beer. 

I have this one hanging in my beer bunker... probably 1950s
