taps for a keezer
« on: November 18, 2017, 11:55:23 am »
I have no local supply houses and am wanting to convert a freezer to a keezer which will hold 4 kegs. Can someone who has done this link me to the taps I will need that are long enough to go through keezer side?

thx

You will need shanks that are the wall thickness plus a minimum 1.5”, 2” is better. I like Rite Brew. Great prices and inexpensive USPS first class shipping.

I second rite brew— their prices are very competitive.  If you’re not sure what you need, keg connection kits up the parts you need and there is a lot of flexibility to uograde their basic kits.

Also need shank washers, tailpieces(part that connects to the line), and shank nuts. Some shanks have integrated tailpieces.

Are you building a wooden collar? That would be much safer than drilling through the freezer itself.

The general idea is, you remove the lid from the freezer (unscrew the hinges), build a "collar" that extends the chest up a few inches, and reattach the lid to this. The taps go through the collar, not the freezer wall where you don't know where the coils are until your drill hits them. If you do a web search on "keezer collar" you'll find lots of plans and tips.
