If it involves pine needles in the mash, ask tubercle first.

No, but I brewed a Piney the Elder clone yesterday but decided to have it all Simcoe hence the reference to conifer.  It should turn out interesting.  It has an OG of 1.09!

All Simcoe. To me that would taste like cat pee on a pine tree :o , although others feel differently about it ;)

Cat pee on a pine tree....that's funny.  I guess that I'll find out in a few weeks.  After doing 24 batches, I'm kindof into the experimentation phase of brewing.  A Christmas tree ale just in time for Christmas...

*Note*, I really miss the "beer" smiley here.

I think Conifer is the AHA-word-of-the-day - I had to go look that one up - thanks for adding to my vocab!

BTW - I thought you would find this link of interest, based on my debate with dmtaylor:

I mean, that's on RRBC letterhead.  Just sayin  ;D ;)

Here is my recipe (extract based and a 5-gallon volume)

Malts/Extracts

3 - 3.3lb cans of Muntons Light LME (9.9lb total full boil)
1 lb Briess Pilsen Extract DME - 15 min.
8 oz. Maltodextrin - 15 min.
1 lb. Corn Sugar - 15 min.

Steeping Grains
1/2 lb. Briess Crystal 40L

Hops
4 oz. Simcoe - 90 min whole leaf
1 oz Simcoe - 45 min, pellets
1 oz Simcoe - 30 min, pellets
3 oz Simcoe - 1 min., whole leaf (2oz) & pellets (1oz)
7 oz Simcoe - secondary, hop plugs

Yeast
WLP001 California Ale, 2-part yeast starter (0.7L/0.7L)

I haven't dry hopped yet but I might do those in stages.  It would be hard to retrieve the old hop sacks so I might just leave them in until bottling day.

I knew that was going to be a Simcoe based beer

Let me know how it turns out

Will do.  This is the brew that I had my fermentation lag problem (see thread in Fermentation Section).

I brew with the owner of Cocoa Beach Brewing Company. We brew a Double IPA with a 9.5 oz of simcoe. Plus another 14.5 oz of other hops in a 12 gallon batch. Everyone seems to like it.

I have found that the over use of Simcoe does indeed lend a very solid 'Catty-ness' the is very much like cat pee on a Christmas tree. One of the most disturbing flavor and aroma combinations in a beer. I am a big fan of 'funk' but catty is a no go in my house.
If you can make mac and cheese from a box, you can make great beer.
