Celis Grand Cru
« on: July 01, 2017, 06:18:14 pm »
Happily found this in a refrigerator at a party where I was told to help myself. Have never had this before but recognized the name from here on the forum. Just a fantastic brew, a nice change of pace from the rest of the fridge.
Really don't know what this one was doing in a fridge full of BMC and other assorted non choices

It was sitting on the bottom shelf with a bunch of Leinenkugel nonsense and Corona. When I asked, they admitted it came with a friend and had been sitting in the  Fridge for over a year. The date stamped on bottle says bottled 10/21/15

I haven't had that beer since it was brewed in Austin.

Sounds like you found the needle in the haystack. Well done.  The rest of it looks like they just bought a bunch of random stuff they thought people might like.  Corona and Warstiener are an odd combo for sure.

Yes, I also had a Warsteiner Dunkel in addition to the Stone Ghost IPAs(?, Think that was the name) that I brought with. It certainly was an odd assortment of brews in there. I was told to help myself, as there were all kinds of great beer in there. I managed to stay away from the Naty Ice 24s that we're chilling in the door. Showed some strong restraint there

Edit to add: actually Ghost Hammer IPA

Celis Grand Cru was one of my favorites back in the 2000's. My parents toured the original brewery in Austin and were impressed. Sadly, Miller bought them and put them out of business.  But there is good new on the horizon!

Has anyone been to the brewery or had any of the new Celis?

We stopped in for one in January. I had the Wit, and it was the classic I remembered. The wife had the Grand Cru, which was better than I remembered.

A stop at Celis is highly recommended.

Yes. Gladly, I work nearby. Both the White and Grand Cru are quite nice!
