The entry rules will most likely list how the bottles will be presented. Usually bottles can not have any identifiable markings. A colored cap could be considered an identifier.
This is true, to an extent, but in my experience the solid color ones are fine. Most of the caps will be gold, silver or black, but you'll see every color under the rainbow, but multiple people may use orange, multiple people may use yellow, etc. That said, there are a few "patterned" caps that I've seen, white with green hop leaves, pink with hearts, etc etc. As a comp director I would discourage those caps, but solid colors would be fine.
The way I've ready that line is something written on the cap. Like a name, or a beer style.
I've only seen a handful of comps that specify something like "Gold Caps Only".
