The first president of the Malt Munching Mash Monsters (my club) was a graduate student in Microbiology at LSUMC. His considered opinion was that trub is yeast food, and that it was a good thing.

In my almost 10 years of brewing, both amateur and pro, I have never worried about trub, and have seen no detrimental effects from putting it in the fermentors with the wort.

Yes officer, I know that I smell like beer. I'm not drinking it, I'm wearing it!

My batch with unrinsed yeast seems happy, maybe a little
fermenter trub carryover from the last batch does no harm if no good.  But I'll continue to avoid excessive trub from the kettle just to make yeast harvesting easier (knowing how much yeast is in my sludge.)  Professionally this would be less of a problem, it's easy to dump trub from the cone before yeast.

One thing rarely considered, trub doesn't propagate

I have tried both ways, before I bought conicals I didn't care.  Now that I harvest yeast there is a lot less to wash if you leave it in the kettle.  Another observation, I don't use any fining other than whirlfloc, I have noticed my beers clear a little quicker if I leave the break in the kettle.  As far as taste I don't think it makes a difference worth worrying about
Dough in completed........why is my false bottom on the table??

I'm in the "go ahead and let it in, but not the whole pile" camp.  The yeast need some food.
