Small batch bottling method.
« on: March 30, 2018, 04:59:54 pm »
I have 5 one gallon beers that are finished with their fermentation and was wondering how other people go about bottling or kegging small batches.
I would prefer not to keg these batches because I only have 5 gal cornys.

Do most of you recommend using a bottling bucket for such small amounts? My guess is about 3-4 bottles per 1 gallon carboy. I usually use 750ml bottles but could also do half gallon growler or go buy a case of 12oz.

I am looking for not a lot of clean up.  But will make a mess no matter what.

What do you think?

Bottling wand attached to an auto siphon to fill, and these to carb

I siphon straight from primary and use sugar cubes. In Norway i can get 2.1g cubes which is perfect for a 0.33cl bottle. Works great apart from that it can be a struggle doing it yourself and that the last couple drops can get murky because of the residue at the bottom. This can of course be solved by not putting the siphon that close to the bottom layer.

Not ever going to happen, but I wish someone made 4 or 5 packs of small batch pitches of similar yeast. Would be awesome for comparison, finding your favorite. Like 5 different Saison strains, or 5 different English, etc etc. Maybe 50ml activator, just enough for a gallon with no starter, but you can get it going before pitching. My price point would be pretty high, because it beats brewing 25 gallons, 5 each...

Same as regular bottle bucket procedure for larger batches. I drilled a hole in a food grade two gallon bucket so it fits the normal bottle bucket spigot.
