Belgian Tripel : Czech vs US Saaz
« on: April 24, 2018, 09:17:00 am »
I'm wondering if anyone has worked with both of these hops and can lead me in the right direction.

Would either the Czech or US Saaz be preferred when brewing a Tripel?

This will be only a 1oz addition @ 60 Min, but I do not want to use the 'wrong' hop and blow my Tripel out of style.

Thanks for any input!

When using such a small amount of bittering hop addition, I agree with Denny as to just about any style - the bittering hop will contribute very little to flavor... maybe a slight spice with Saazer varieties (Czech or US), but your yeast will be the shining element with a Tripel.

Denny and Ynot, thank you both for your replies.

This is great to hear! Well... great to read.   ???

Anyway, this makes the choice easier as now I can buy the cheaper option (Czech) and brew along worry free.

I'd make the decision based on the quality of the hops.

Ah gotcha. I’ll make sure to inquire about that.  :)
